Medjugorje – The heart of our Lady

Finally he asked, “Is Our Lady really beautiful, as you have said?” Their answer was, “Well, really we haven’t told you anything about that. Her beauty cannot be described. It is not our kind of beauty. It is something ethereal, something heavenly, something that we’ll only see in Paradise and then only to a certain degree.” Visionary Mirjana, in her autobiography, says that when they asked the Gospa, “How is it possible that you are so beautiful?” Our Lady gently smiled. “I am beautiful because I love,” she said. “If you want to be beautiful, then love.”

May is the Holy month of Mary.

It is the month of Motherhood, the month of blooming flowers and the blossoming of early spring where you feel the beauty of life wherever you go.

I have been blessed to visit Medjugorje not only once but twice and counting…

“Medjugorje is a place where Heaven touches the earth”.
It is called Medjugorje but you can call it : “THE HEART OF OUR LADY”

Medjugorje is a town in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated at an altitude of 200m above sea level, 25km southern of Mostar and close to the border of Croatia. The name ”Medjugorje” means ”between mountains”.

I still remember when in 2015 i called to book for a trip to Medjugorje. I had in mind to go there on Easter but there was no available places. All the trips on Easter time were fully booked. So i told them: Fine… When can i go? And their answer was: in May.

So the Queen of Peace wanted me to visit her during her month in May.

It was a journey like no other. I stayed there for 7 days where everyday i’ve been overwhelmed by new feelings and emotions. You feel the presence of Our Gospa everywhere, everywhere,… in the church, near the Cross, in the faces of people coming from all over the world. You feel her presence in the peace in your heart, while walking on the hill, whenever you look at the sky and between the clouds. The air itself carry something of the Virgin Mary. You feel Her as close as She can be. You feel her motherly Love that will stay in your heart long after you leave that Holy place; but you know what, you won’t actually leave it because Medjugorje and the love of our Lady will be in your heart wherever you go.

Let me tell you a bit about the beautiful story of Medjugorje.

On 24 of June 1981, Mirjana Dragicevic and Ivanka Ivanković, small Herzegovinian kids saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary on the hill Crnica (the place called Podbrdo). The following day, the Holy Mother appeared again to four other young kids: Marija Pavlović, Jakov Colo, Vicka Ivanković and Ivan Dragicevic. So our Lady of Medjugorje appeared to six children who saw her everyday for years.

Nowadays, our Gospa (Lady in Croatian) continues to appear daily to three of these visionaries ever since.

Vicka was sixteen years old when she first saw our Queen of Peace who gave her ”nine secrets” as well as a biography of Mary’s life contained in two notebooks that will be published when our Lady tells her to do so. The mission given to her by the Gospa is to pray for the sick. Vicka continues to see the Blessed Virgin Mary daily.

The always smiling Vicka

I had the chance to meet Vicka when i was in Medjugorje and to listen to her emotional testimony about our Queen of Peace.

Saint James Church – Medjugorje

The centre of Marian devotion in Medjugorje is Saint James Church. The Apostle St. James the Greater of whom the church of St. James was dedicated is the Patron Saint of Pilgrims. When the plans were made to build the church several decades before the apparition in 1897, it was much smaller than now. Built on unstable ground, it soon started to develop fissures. Years later a much larger Church was drawn up in the plans. Construction lasted from 1934 until the 19th of January 1969 when the Church was consecrated. There was no real explanation as to why the church was built so big. But once the apparitions started, the church was filled with pilgrims from all over the world. God has inspired them to overbuild the Church. The exterior altar which was built in 1989 and the surrounding prayer area which has about 500 seats are a place of gathering and for big feasts.

Mount Podbrdo is the mountain where our Lady first appeared and still appears to this day. After the apparitions it was called the ”Apparition Mountain”. It is a hard steep path full of rocks that ascends to the beautiful white statue of our Mother. Thousands of millions of pilgrims have climbed this mountain. I had the chance to climb Mount Podbrdo twice. My first time was during my first visit to Medjugorje and the second time was last year in August (one year after my first visit). You will see babies with their parents, kids, couples, young people, sick people and elderies making this journey with faith in their heart. Once you start climbing Mt. Podbrdo you won’t feel the difficulty of the road, on the contrary you will find yourself enjoying every sacred moment of it.

The rocky path to Mount Podbrdo

The Wooden Cross that you find to the left of the main path coming down the Apparition mountain marks the spot of an event that occured between the visionary Marija and Our Lady on the 26 June 1981. Our Gospa appeared in tears to Marija with a bare wooden Cross behind her giving her the message of peace and reconciliation.

The Wooden Cross

On 11 May 2015 we had the good news that Our Lady will be appearing exceptionally on that night at 10 pm at the Blue Cross to Ivan one of the visionaries and we were invited. The Blue Cross is located at the base of the Apparition Mountain. It marks the location where Our Lady appeared to the visionaries when they were hiding from the communist police in the beginning days of the apparitions. Since then Our Lady continued to appear to Ivan at this place but because of the thousands of Pilgrims coming for the apparitions, it became nearly impossible to Ivan and his prayer group to get near to the Blue Cross; they would end up to the right of the Cross. Another Blue Cross and altar were erected to mark the actual location of the present apparitions.

The Blue Cross

So on that special night we were excited and we could not wait till it was 8h30 pm to climb to the Blue Cross and wait for the Virgin Mary to appear at 10pm. When we arrived there, thousands of pilgrims were already waiting just like us reciting the Rosary in all languages, saying prayers to our Lady and singing the ”Ave Maria”. There was a magical breeze where you find yourself in peace with everything around you. Everything was so calm, so beautiful. Everyone waited for the Virgin.

Night of the Apparition going up to the Blue Cross

You will find below a text from site explaining the message of Our Lady on that magical night:

“Tonight, the most important from the meeting together with Our Lady. Also tonight Our Lady came to us joyful and happy and at the beginning, as always, She greeted all of us with Her Motherly greeting, ‘Praised be Jesus my dear children.’  Then, for a while, with Her arms extended, Our Lady prayed over all of us here and She prayed especially over the sick present here. Then Our Lady said:

“Dear children, also today anew I desire to call you that through this time you pray for my intentions – for my plans which I desire to realize by my coming here. Pray, dear children, and be persevering in prayer. The Mother prays with you and intercedes for all of you before Her Son. Thank you, dear children, for also today having responded to my call.”

“Then Our Lady blessed all of us with Her Motherly blessing, and She also blessed everything you brought to be blessed. I also recommended all of you, all of your needs, your intentions, your families and especially the sick. After that Our Lady continued to pray for a while over all of us here and left in that prayer, in an illuminated Sign of the Cross, with a greeting, ‘Go in peace my dear children.’

Krizevac or Mount of the Cross

”Krizevac” or ”Mount of the Cross” is the highest mountain in the area. On 15 March 1934 a large concrete Cross was erected to comemorate the 1900th Anniversary of Jesus Passion and death on the Cross. A relic of the true Cross of Jesus was received from Rome from Pope Pius XI and built into this Cross. Our Lady of Medjugorje once said in an apparition that the Cross on Mt. Krizevac was in God’s design and she said on 31 August 1984 ”I love the Cross which you have providentially erected on Mt. Krizevac in a very special way. Go there more often and pray.”

The Queen of Peace appears everyday at 6h40pm in Medjugorje and it is a time of praying and communicating with our Gospa from the deep of our soul. During one of her daily apparitions, it is just happened that I took a picture of the sun which sometimes spin and dance in the sky at the apparition time. Later on I realised that the Queen of Peace was actually visible in the picture I took.

Our Queen of Peace above the Sun

Our Lady has been appearing for 36 years and in her messages she asks us to pray a lot, to love her son Jesus and to go back to God who loves us. She asks for Peace, Reconciliation and to Love each other.

I would like to share with you a message given by our Lady during her Apparition on the 3d of October 1985:

Dear children! I wish to tell you to thank God for all the graces which God has given you. For all the fruits thank the Lord and glorify him! Dear children, learn to give thanks in little things and then you will be able to give thanks also for the big things. Thank you for having responded to my call.

The visionaries in Medjugorje tell us that no one goes to Medjugorje by accident. We are called individually by Our Lady. What an awesome thought! If you feel called to go to Medjugorje then answer Our Lady’s invitation! Traveling to Medjugorje is truly a life changing experience and one that you will remember for the rest of your life!

Our Mother is always by our side showering us with her motherly Love like only a Mother can do.

May you have a Blessed month of May!

With Love from the Queen of Peace,

Maja  ❤
